The retractable hardtop of the BMW Z4 Roadster.
The first BMW roadster with a hardtop. Its sophisticated design means the characteristic low-slung appearance remains unaltered even with the top down. This is possible thanks to the optimal folding of the two aluminium roof shells in approximately 20 seconds. With the top closed, the roof line of the roadster adopts a coupé-style silhouette, and the generous side and rear windows ensure captivating panorama views. Whether you choose to drive with the roof open or closed, it's never a question of style but always of the moment.
The straight six-cylinder petrol engines in the BMW Z4 sDrive23i, sDrive30i and sDrive35i.
Why does a roadster have an elongated bonnet? To accommodate six cylinders in a row. This is because only straight six-cylinder engines provide the perfect combination of weight and power coupled with dynamic balance and sophisticated smoothness. Constructed from a combination of magnesium and aluminium, the BMW Z4 sDrive23i (150 kW/204 hp) and sDrive30i (190 kW/258 hp) set new standards in dynamic engineering. And in the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, High Precision Injection and Twin Turbo help release up to 225 kW (306 hp) on command.
The seven-speed sport automatic double-clutch transmission in the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Taking your breath away but not your speed, the seven-speed sport automatic transmission* transfers engine power to the road without the slightest disruption to tractive force. With two transmission structures the system is able to switch simply between the two, thus providing constant power to the rear wheels. Gears can be changed without the transmission of power being interrupted using either the paddles on the steering wheel, the shift lever or the automatic mode for even more dynamic comfort. The Driving Dynamic Control is used to effortlessly switch between the

A short movement of the shift lever and the gear changes instantly. The clutch re-engages and directs the full force of the drive power to the rear wheels. Standard for the BMW Z4 Roadster, the six-speed transmission system extracts even more driving pleasure from the muscular torque of the engines. Whatever your driving style, control of the Z4's efficient, dynamic performance is at your fingertips.
The aluminium front axle on the BMW Z4 Roadster.
The aluminium double-joint tiebar axle delivers outstanding driving dynamics and excellent passenger comfort weighing around 30 percent less than normal steel axles. With equal weight distribution between axles, the BMW Z4 Roadster steers with crystal-clear precision.
The adaptive M suspension for the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Effortlessly trace the curves of the road as you negotiate confidently in and out of bends. With the optional adaptive M suspension, the BMW Z4 Roadster pushes the boundaries of driving dynamics without ever compromising comfort. A ten millimetre lower suspension lowers the centre of gravity for faster cornering. Sensors measure relevant acceleration and adjust the damping within hundredths of a second while Driving Dynamic Control allows you to choose between the modes
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) in the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Sports driving demands unwavering concentration. Reactions are measured in milliseconds. DSC constantly monitors the forces acting on the BMW Z4 Roadster's chassis and checks that they are within the maximum limits. If the vehicle's behaviour indicates a danger of skidding, the system quickly and subtly intervenes by braking individual wheels as needed. The next-generation DSC now offers not only ABS and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) but new extended functions.
50:50 weight distribution in the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Rear-wheel drive and the intelligent use of modern lightweight materials ensure that the BMW Z4 Roadster's overall weight is distributed evenly between the two axles. The result is excellent handling and outstanding agility for maximum enjoyment on every bend.
The iDrive operating concept in the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Right to continue, left for back and turn to select: you've now learned how to operate the new iDrive* which gives you full control over all of the BMW Z4 Roadster's functions from the navigation system to the internet.
